Tanya Ha

Tanya Ha is a writer, television presenter, environmentalist and internationally recognised sustainable living advocate. She is best known as the Eco Coach in the landmark SBS reality TV series Eco House Challenge, the author of the acclaimed eco-guide book Greeniology and a media commentator on environmental issues.

In the new SBS TV series Eco House Challenge, Tanya is the Eco Coach - the green living expert who helps guide two decidedly non-green Australian families along the path from planet-polluting to eco-friendly in a few short weeks.

Tanya is a "people's environmentalist". She is a passionate advocate for the ways that ordinary people can help save the planet, earning her the nickname 'Eco-Nigella'.

Warm, engaging and more hip than hippie, Tanya is a rare breed of environmentalist - one with a sense of humour. She makes complex environmental issues easy to understand and offers practical, accessible advice that people can incorporate into their lifestyle. Her approach is fun and positive, believing that people respond better when they're made to feel empowered rather than guilty.

Tanya's work currently focuses on writing books and feature articles, environmental communication consulting and other green media projects.

Tanya spent many years working for Planet Ark, a non-political, non-confrontational, unashamedly populist environment group that defines itself by what it's for, not what it's against. She also serves on the Board of the state government authority Sustainability Victoria.

In 2003, Tanya launched her first book Greeniology. Greeniology has been described as the ‘environment bible’ and is fast becoming Australia’s leading reference for green living. Tanya has written a Canadian edition of Greeniology, which was published by Penguin Group (Canada) in 2005. Greeniology is also being translated into Chinese and French.

Melbourne University Publishing published the expanded and updated second edition in September 2006. The first print run sold out within three months. May 2007 will see a re-issue of Greeniology to coincide with Tanya's TV debut on SBS's landmark series Eco House Challenge.

Tanya is now concentrating on writing, consulting and developing environmental media projects. She is working on several new books, including The Australian Green Consumer Guide, which will be published by UNSW Press in August 2007.

Tanya also writes freelance feature articles. She has written stories for newspapers and magazines, including Sunday magazine, Australian House & Garden, Fresh, Cosmopolitan and Yen. She also has a regular column in G magazine - the new eco-lifestyle magazine from Luna Media, the publishers of Cosmos.

Tanya is an articulate, engaging, warm, informative, entertaining and inspirational speaker. Whether presenting keynote speeches to large audiences or small sustainability workshops, she involves her audience and empowers them to act on what they hear. Her speeches are thought provoking but fun, inspiring and motivating listeners to environmental action in their own lives.

Tanya's speech and workshop experience includes corporate events, youth conferences, local government education initiatives, environmental expos and other special events and launches.
